Office phone systems, which will give the old telephone systems a run for their buck

We are all aware of the voice over internet protocol, IP-PBX systems, but there’s another thing called VoWiFi or Voice over Wireless Fidelity. This kind of office phone systems is based on the concept that the consumers should be able to use a single mobile phone to seamlessly access both VoIP calling and cellular calling. A VoIP is used to transport a call when you’re in an 802.11b/g wireless hotspot. When outside the wireless hotspot, the cellular network picks up the call. This concept is revolutionary, but there are certain challenges that these hybrid VoIP/cellular service enabled telephone systems could be made available to a large consumer base. The challenge that is the most difficult to overcome is how to switch seamlessly from VoIP to cellular transmission.

The next challenge for this telephone systems is that how a call would be billed that’s carried partly over a VoWiFi network and partly over a cellular network. The next concern is the standards that would govern a VoWiFi industry. Even the wireless standards are an issue in the current time. The most accepted and employed wireless standards are 802.11b and 802.11g. However, office phone systems operating on 802.11b can only support network speeds up to 11 Mbps but doesn’t perform well to a higher rate of network traffic. This standard is also affected by interference from common household appliances. This is because both operate on the 2.4-GHz frequency.
